Working for a well-established and successful, family run, wholesale/manufacturing business in Stevenage, a fantastic opportunity has become available for an experienced and dynamic Transport Manager to work alongside the Depot Manager. You will be managing people, processes and systems to ensure transport operations throughout the depot run at maximum efficiency.
The Transport Manager reports to the Depot Manager and alongside the Warehouse Manager but is directly responsible for the productivity and welfare of approx. 60 staff which includes drivers and transport administration staff.
Your key responsibilities as Transport Manager will include the following:
·Managing all aspects of the transport department and its drivers
·Ensuring that the most effective routes are used by drivers, decreasing travel time between destinations
·Ensuring that all Transport Operations throughout the Depot run at maximum efficiency
·Dealing with recruitment of staff, dealing with disciplinary issues and supporting the drivers in any day to day issues
·Responsible for all aspects of health and safety compliance in department
·Look to improve internal systems and processes within the transport department
·Forecast possible problems throughout the transport routes, plan and amend routes accordingly
·Implement continuous improvement throughout the transport department
·Managing and driving cost efficiencies including agency staff
·Oversee staff planning in the transport department
·Oversee the fleet maintenance ensuring all reported vehicle faults are rectified
·Travelling to other depots within the company as necessary
The successful Transport Manager will have strong experience already working within a Transport Manager/ Supervisory role and have excellent transport planning and routing experience (routing around London would be advantageous but not essential). You will have excellent management and communication skills and be a motivated and ambitious individual who will implement positive change.
You will be the type of person who likes accountability and autonomy, this company welcomes new ideas and ways of working so you will be listened to if you have ideas of improving your department to benefit the overall profitability of the Depot. Advanced IT skills are essential and CPC would be advantageous. This is a hands on role so you will be able to and willing to do any job within your department if needed and will enjoy leading by example.
This is a full-time position working a minimum of 45 hours per week Monday to Friday and Saturday on a rota basis. There is also a requirement to be ‘on call’ on evenings and weekends.
Salary £32K plus £4K bonus upon KPI achievement (paid quarterly)
